Membership With WAVLI and AVLIC
WAVLI is a chapter member of the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada (AVLIC), our national association. Some benefits for these members include: voting rights both at the local and nation level, a complimentary directory, access to the WAVLI Listserv, the WAVLI newsletter, the AVLIC News, professional development opportunities both locally and nationally, and access to the members-only area on the WAVLI and AVLIC websites.
Proof of training, certification, qualifications, etc. will be required to approve your membership. All applications for the Student membership category must have proof of enrollment in a recognized ASL-English Interpreting Program (AEIP) or Interpreter Training Program (ITP). These documents must be sent to WAVLI directly.
Membership is divided into two categories Duel Active Membership and Student. They are broken down as follows:
DUEL ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP
- Active ASL-English Interpreter Dual Membership: WAVLI/AVLIC (New Member: $150 Renewal: $275)
- Deaf Interpreter Dual Active Membership: WAVLI/AVLIC (New Member: $75 Renewal: $125)
- LSQ-French Active Dual Membership: WAVLI/AVLIC (New Member: $75 Renewal: $125)
STUDENT
Student Dual Membership: WAVLI/AVLIC $70
The Student Dual membership category is for students registered in a recognized Interpreter Training Program. These members can not vote but will have access to the WAVLI Listserv, the WAVLI newsletter, the AVLIC News, and access to the members-only area on the WAVLI and AVLIC websites. Students that are graduating this year may apply for the Student Dual Membership Category before the renewal deadline, however, upon graduation will be required to upgrade their membership to Active for the remainder of the year.
WAVLI and AVLIC are pleased to also offer the following option:
Subscription Service: WAVLI/AVLIC $35
The WAVLI/AVLIC Subscription option is not a membership category. This is a service offered for people who are interested in supporting the interpreting profession but who are not working interpreters themselves. Some previous supporting and organizational members may feel this option better suits their needs. Those who “subscribe” to WAVLI/AVLIC will have access to the WAVLI Listserv and the WAVLI newsletter, the AVLIC News, as well as the latest updates from AVLIC.
WAVLI also offers its members an exemption membership. A member can be on exemption for bereavement, parental, educational or illness reasons and pay only 25% of their Active Membership fee. This option is for a minimum of six months and a maximum of one year. During this time, these members are not eligible to vote but still receive WAVLI/AVLIC information, updates and newsletters as Active members do.

Active members renewing membership by March 31st will be printed in WAVLI's membership directory.
